KEynote By Sivan Ben yishai

and panel discussion

4th August 2022, 18 Uhr // in English language

The KNALLBRAUSE festival weekend will be opened by a keynote by author Sivan Ben Yishai. The Talk is intended to create the basis for a space that will emerge and grow over the festival. a space that offers room for discussion and exchange. Thematically, Sivan Ben Yishai opens the discourse around power structures and theater. Where do institutional theaters act and where not? How much is concealed? Questions that also tie into the issue of transparency when it comes to theater closures due to the pandemic. Since Sivan Ben Yishai is not in Germany, the keynote will be transmitted via video on a screen.

From transparency in theaters, the focus is moved on to the visibility of marginalized groups. In a moderated discussion, Anette Bühler-Dietrich, George Seremba, Marco Damghani get into conversation about the still acute structural discrimination of groups not only on, but also backstage. It is about representation on stage, as well as presence in the processes of creating productions. What changes are needed to make the theater world a place that is truly diverse, that can actually tell stories from all perspectives? Diversity and variety should not just be hypocritical buzzwords, but goals that institutional bodies should also set for themselves. But this requires changes in structure.
